What’s wrong with Chain restaurants/bars?

Well, for me, they are just too predictable and boring. Not that there is anything wrong with being able to go to any location and get the same atmosphere and menu, and they do serve a purpose when celebrating a birthday meal out and you need a chorus to sing happy birthday. Ok, I admit it, I do go to those chain restaurants and I am mesmerized when I look at those big pictures of food jumping off those colorful menus. But, there’s something missing for me.
You know that local restaurant and bar? It’s been around forever, and you drive by it all the time. It’s just over there. Why do we tend to ignore what’s local in our neighborhoods?
When I go to my favorite local spot, it’s like hanging around with friends and neighbors. I don’t really have to know anyone, and most times I don’t, but people actually smile and say hello and chit-chat a bit. Nothing wrong with that! The staff is friendly and I never feel like they are attempting to “up sell” me. And if I feel like getting out of the house to go watch the game, I can count on it being a good time. So that being said, I think checking out your local independent restaurant or bar can be a very enlightening experience. After all, you live in that area, make it yours.
